Brutalist architecture concept
I wanted to create something that fit the brief but also wasn't too simple.
I wanted to incorporate something on the inside of the cup also.
Final sketch
This final concept includes:
A dome going inside on the bottom of the cup
Three grip like ridges on the side of the cup
And a lip that allows the cup to hold a lid in place.
Learning which foam to use for certain details
First blue foam model did not come out how i wanted it to. I found that the details were difficult to carve out.
The second model i made, i used the yellow, more dense foam and it worked a lot better.
CAD dimensions and features
Making process
Making the base of the mould was the most complicated part of this process as it required a lot of steps.
I had to redo this step as there was too many large air bubbles in the mould.
Plaster
Glueing
Carving
Soaping
Creating a mould shell for the plaster
Using clay to hold things together
Slip Pouring
This step was the easiest as it was just pouring the slip into the finished mould and then waiting for it to dry.
Holding the mould together with a rubber band
Cleaning mould
Pouring slip
Waiting for it to dry
Carving away excess
Demoulding with air gun
30-40 minutes for each step in this process.
Final ceramic Model
The first ceramic model; did not come out so well on the top but it was an easy fix of just making another oneĀ
The image to the right was my final model. It came out well the second time and only needed a little bit of sponging.
